To build this circuit

Insert the 555 IC in the centre of the breadboard and ensure that its notch or dot is on the left

Connect a black wire to 0V

Connect the 10 kΩ resistor to the +9V power supply. Connect a push switch to 0V (remember to solder the leads onto the switch)

Connect the 47 kΩ resistor to an used block of 5 holes, then connect an LED from that block to 0V

Connect a red wire to the +9V row of sockets

Connect the 0.01 µF capacitor to 0V. If you find that the leads are too short, take a wire and connect it to an empty block of holes, then connect the capacitor to that.

Connect the 100 µF capacitor to 0V and connect the lead to pin 6, then connect a blue wire to pin 7

Connect the 47 kΩ resistor to +9V. Make sure that there is a wire already connected to pin 6

Connect a red wire to +9V
